I was never much of a collector as a kid. I had a few Precious Moment statues that I adored (when those were a thing), but I didn’t really collect figurines or anything along those lines.
That is until I had a home of my own. I really enjoy the look of both like-item groupings and themed collections in home decor. We have several vintage-inspired themes in our house. You can see my love of old globes in our dining room. And I really like using vintage thermoses in my kitchen decor as seen here and here.

But my ultimate favorite vintage item to collect is old metal fans – the kind that would cut off a finger if you got too close. No worries, though. I always cut off the power cords and simply blended them into my home decor.
And I’ve been doing this long before stores started making replicas. Call me a trend setter. (wink, wink)
My vintage fan collection.
Here are a few ways I decorate with vintage fans in my living room decor.
Here are a few vintage fans in my kitchen and dining areas. My obsession continues.
A pendant light inspired by retro fans.
Recently we worked with Parrot Uncle on a post for my favorite vintage style lights under $50 as a follow up to the popular Favorite Vintage Industrial Farmhouse Lights Under $50. While browsing their site, I happened upon this magnificent fan-like light.
Doesn’t this light remind you of a retro fan? I had to have it! I reached out to Parrot Uncle and they agreed to send me this light if I shared it with you.
I needed a new dining room light. Just after we moved many years ago, we spray painted a hand-me-down light from my parent’s house… it was supposed to be a temporary replacement. Sadly it remained in place for over a decade… Until now.
I added these light bulbs to help amplify the industrial style. They are LED and only 4.5w but equal to a standard 40w bulb. I chose this particular one because the filament is a bright yellow and visible even when the lights are off.
This vintage fan-like pendant light really is a beautiful addition to my vintage dining room and home office area. Click here for more details about how this room performs many duties for the Robb household.
We hosted my parents for dinner recently and my dad commented that there wasn’t a light that looked more like me than this one! I couldn’t agree more.

I love all your fans and your new light, your Dad is right, it definitely looks like you and fits beautifully in your home. On another note, do you happen to have any boxes like the one above that says “Beverages-Fowler, Ind” for sale? (any that have Fowler on them and that size). I would love to buy one from you. If not, can you keep your eye out for one similar (as long as it has Fowler, Ind on it) I will pick it up when I’m home in July. I know you love a mission to go search a junk/flea market! 🙂
Love you!
