For me, craig's list is like one big garage sale. And frankly, it can be a bit intimidating unless you know what you are looking for. Many times you will look and find nothing. I mean absolutely nada. But on that rare occasion where you spot a really great item and get it for a really great price, you will be hooked. Get a smart phone app so you can browse during down time or while waiting on something... or when you are bored with inspired by Pinterest. But, I can't take credit … [Read more...] about FOUND: Vintage Distressed Cabinet

Feed Sack Chair Makeover
Who says your have to use fabric to reupholster an old chair? Create an authentic farmhouse look with an old grain sack instead. I spotted this gem at a garage sale years ago. It's been tucked away in my basement collecting dust, waiting for some inspiration... until now. I was most attracted to the decorative arms and feet - knowing that distressed paint would adhere to the grooves and really give this piece some character. Repurposed feed and grains sacks are all over the place … [Read more...] about Feed Sack Chair Makeover
Vintage Trash Can Makeover
Here's another trash can makeover (see dog food container) only this time we will use it for trash. My husband went picking and found this great vintage metal trash can with foot lever... and it still worked! While I was already using this beautiful glossy red spray paint on the dog food container, I thought it would also make a great color for this trash can, which I intended to put in our downstairs bathroom (pictured here). I thought the red would compliment the dark blue and crisp white walls. … [Read more...] about Vintage Trash Can Makeover
DIY Puppy Couch Cover
This Christmas will go down in Robb history as one of our more memorable ones and not for what Santa brought... but for the little guy we adopted just before the holiday. Meet Master Chief. To say we aren't "dog people" would be the understatement of the year. We lost our cat suddenly and the overwhelming guilt that follows once you've told your kids their pet died can initiate some hasty, even irrational decisions. But hey, our boys are only young once and the endless requests for a … [Read more...] about DIY Puppy Couch Cover
DIY Feed Sack Curtains
First of all... let me just say I want a new kitchen. Badly. My kitchen was likely remodeled by previous owners in the 80s. Blonde, low-quality stock cabinets that don't all match. Ugly formica countertops in a drab beige. Dated hardware. Blech. BUT, we aren't quite ready to jump into a kitchen remodel so I've been "restyling" little details every so often just to suppress my serious distaste. In fact, I have an entire Pinterest board dedicated to my dream kitchen.... someday. :) I was in the … [Read more...] about DIY Feed Sack Curtains
Buckets & Burlap
My dear husband found these buckets at a flea market last weekend. They were in ok shape and only one still had a handle attached. For this restyle project we added a little burlap number and fabric to the best side of the buckets. I just used scraps I had in my craft supplies (including the ribbon). Once again, using my Silhouette Cameo made it easy to add the stenciled numbers and letters. I used the machine to cut a stencil from freezer paper and ironed it on so it would adhere … [Read more...] about Buckets & Burlap
More burlap foot stools and benches.
Here are a few more benches and a foot stool that we painted, waxed and recovered with burlap sacks. We made our own chalk paint for the white and blue benches. Then we rubbed on a dark wax for a smooth finish. Our personal favorite is the blue "kitchen queen" potato sack! These are perfect accessories for your living room or a mudroom for putting on shoes... or perhaps in a bedroom or by your front door. There are countless possibilities. Would be great in a room with some burlap pillows … [Read more...] about More burlap foot stools and benches.
Before and After: Cowhide Reupholstered Chair
Here's a before and after that I'd like to soon forget! It's one of those projects that I foolishly challenged myself with... I thought recovering an old vinyl chair would be a simple project for my skill set. Even when my brother-in-law insisted that I cover it with cowhide instead of fabric, I thought it would be no problem. ... {proving I know so very little about upholstering furniture} ... I had no idea how physically tough it would be to work with a rounded chair and stiff … [Read more...] about Before and After: Cowhide Reupholstered Chair
Before and After: Chair Update
My husband found these great chairs at an auction for just a few bucks each. One of them had some damage on the middle panel, but overall they were solid and in good condition. I don't know why, but I'm attracted to lonely, mismatched chairs. Maybe it's because each chair has a unique character, shape and form that can be easily re-styled for any room or purpose. I have quite a collection of random chairs in our basement workshop that I've updated for resell. My dad even joked that we should … [Read more...] about Before and After: Chair Update
