If you’re stopping by after visiting Postcards from the Ridge, welcome! I’m so happy to have you! I’m sharing a tour of my front porch. I love anything vintage and retro, so I decided to round up some of my favorite finds that had a vintage Christmas cabin vibe.

SHOP OUR FRONT PORCH
There’s one item this year that inspired my front porch decorations and it’s those old winter skis. We scored two sets of skis with poles at an auction this summer for just a few bucks. I’ve been searching for old skis for years. These aren’t super old, but old enough to look a little retro.
I loved the pop of red and blue on the white skis, and that’s what influenced the color palette I used to decorate my front porch. The skis even have an R on them – so fitting, don’t ya think? I did use some wire to attach them to the wall. The winter winds in Indiana can be brutal.
This wicker chair usually sits in the opposite corner of my front porch, but I thought it would be fun to place it closer to the front door. My sister stopped by after I had decorated and said she thought this spaced looked like a cozy place to take off your boots after a cold winter day… that’s EXACTLY what I was going for!
Of course there had to be a mix of plaid, thermoses and soda crates… because, those are my FAVORITES! If you’re on Instagram, then you need to check out the #thermosthursday hashtag every Thursday for some lovely thermos displays.
I snagged the gingham pillow off my deck (see our backyard space here) and grabbed a holiday pillow from the Target dollar spot. Apparently our word of the season is JOY. Ha, ha. I didn’t realize I had doubled up on the wreath sign and the pillow. Oh well. It’s a good word for the season.
The other side of the door is pretty narrow, so as not to obstruct the door opening I just chose a tall narrow planter and a few small buckets.
I love to repurpose galvanized buckets. Using a photo transfer medium and a sign I printed on my printer, I made this holiday greens bucket last season. This year I filled it with some logs and greens from our yard and a few faux berries/flowers for a pop of color.
Oh, and I love my faux pine tree… YES that pine is fake and I love how real it looks. I even added a little dirt in the planter for added effect! If you are tired of plants dying on your covered porches, then you need to try one of these! You won’t be disappointed.
Finally, I’ll leave you with a few tips to decorate your outdoor space.
- Start with a color palette in mind.
- Grab some of your favorite finds around the house that fit into your color palette or theme.
- Use a plaid blanket and/or pillows to soften the space.
- Mix in some green clippings from your yard, pine garland, and/or a faux pine as filler.
Whatever you do… make it YOU! Putting these skis on the front porch with some of my other favorite finds makes me so happy. And your decorated space should do the same for you.
Ok, you’ve seen my front porch. Now it’s time to head on over to Our Southern Home. And don’t forget to look at yesterday’s tours too! All the links are included below.

Your porch looks so festive! The chair by the door does look like the perfect spot for taking off or putting on winter boots and it also looks like a comfortable spot for enjoying some hot chocolate. I love the retro look of your skis. My cousin has a set of old skis discarded from a nearby ski resort that he’s been saving for me. If they aren’t good colors like yours are, my plan is to paint them. I love all of your vintage, especially that plaid thermos with the Coke crate. I look forward to seeing more of your Christmas decor.

Hi Kristy, I’m just now making my way around to visit everyone on the porch tour. First, let me say that one can never have too much joy at this time of the year! Love every aspect of your decorations, and I need to find a faux tree that looks as realistic as yours. Things can grow on our porch but watering makes such a mess! Looks like we share a love of vintage items. Those skis are awesome!
Kristy Robb says
Thanks Jane – Yes, we definitely share a love of vintage! Thanks for stopping by!

I’m absolutely loving your porch right now! I walked away from a pair of skis at Goodwill a few months ago and I’ve been kicking myself ever since:) Really love the galvanized tree bucket, I did something similar with minnow buckets last year. My porch doesn’t have a roof so I can’t really decorate too much……love looking at all of yours! Thanks so much for sharing at Vintage Charm! Pinned! xoKathleen|Our Hopeful Home
