Hello December! Instead of our usual monthly vintage variety show post, I’m going to share a little project that incorporates our curated vintage toy trucks into our holiday home decor.
I remember watching Babes in Toyland on TV as a kid (of course, I always liked the 1960s version with Annette Funicello better than the 80s version). My favorite scene was when they g0t to drive around in those little battery powered cars. I always wished I had one of my own! Who didn’t, right?!?
Well, these vintage toy trucks aren’t battery powered, but they look super festive and cute! And, they make a great addition to the Toyland of my dreams!
Corey and I had a lot of fun discovering different types of vintage toy vehicles all summer long in flea markets, auctions and estate sales. Some were very well-loved and played with! But, we had an even better time trimming them for the holidays!
Move over gingerbread houses, we’ve got a new holiday project for the family!
Here’s my little guy helping me clean them all up and get them ready for decorating. This project is PERFECT for getting the kiddos involved! Decorating a gingerbread house is fun, but these vintage trucks last all season long and make less of a mess. And, your kids could even just decorate any old toy car from their collection.
This really is something you can do too! It’s a great way to add some whimsical fun to your holiday decor and bring new life to those old vintage toys!
Just gather up some trimmings… if you’ve got a holiday village, you may already have some of these supplies. If not, here are a few links to help you get started.
Supplies
Mini Wreaths: here and here (or mini pine garland that you can shape into your own wreaths with some ribbon)
Mini Holly: here
Mini Lights: here and here (these were my favorite thing to add!)
Bottle Brush Trees: here and here and here
Floral Wire: here (or a hot glue gun will work too)
We gathered our supplies and decorated all of our vehicles at once. Then, let the trimming begin!! There is no wrong way to decorate these. Have fun!
Here are some pictures of our favorites. Some of these sold at our holiday market, but we still have quite a few left that are available for purchase!. If you’re interested in any, just email me for more details.
