DIY | Decorating with Flea Market and Vintage Finds

December 13, 2013

My teeny holiday home tour.

So I’ve been inspired by some great holiday home tours on Pinterest this season. This little photo tour is very teeny compared to those (I’m only at the beginning of this blogging journey and my photo skills indoors aren’t up to par yet)… but I thought I would share a few photos with you anyhow. We purchased a new tree this year and although my photos don’t do it justice, we are so in LOVE with it! My kids even think it’s EPIC and that is quite a compliment coming from them.

I purchased this tree online. My criteria for the tree search included the following attributes: flocked, realistic looking, 7-7.5 feet tall, and UNLIT. Having just tossed a pre-lit tree where most of the lights quit working in season two, I was really just looking for plain ol’ tree with plans to purchase C9 bulbs – you know, the big vintage looking ones. But, it is really, really hard to find a good looking faux tree that isn’t prelit. So, I compromised and I’m so grateful I did.
I am usually obsessed crafty with beaded garland. Last year I even substituted some burlap on my tree… but this year – nothing! No garland anywhere. I might change my mind next year, but this tree is so amazing with its flecked snow and wide-spread branches, it needs no more adorning than our collection of ornaments.
Remember, this is just a teensy-weensy peek into some of my holiday home decorating. Because we’ve been so busy with holiday orders I can’t even show you my multi-purpose dining/office/craft space because its an absolute wreck with painting projects… such is life!  🙂
There is really nothing special about my holiday decorating. Just like the rest of my home decor, I enjoy creating little vintage vignettes around the house… I’ve just added a little holiday spice this month!
Enjoy and happy holidays!
I’m loving my new ladder-turned-wreath hanger. Perfect for all seasons and holidays.
Yarn poms are another new obsession. I’m working my way to a wreath but had to make some garland first.
Meh. I’m struggling with this new dining space this year… not my best work. 🙂
My retro kitchen is coming along… very slowly but should be complete in 2014!
Notice the tight shot… there is still wallpaper that needs removed on this wall!
As a tradition started once my brother was married, my mom purchases pieces from the Willow Nativity Set.
It’s so beautiful and a compliment to my already rustic decor.
Absolutely loving my olive basket. There are so many ways to use it every season.
I’ve had this tree in my collection for many years. I finally found authentic vintage
ornaments at an auction this summer. It’s the perfect pair.

Kristy, so glad that you visited Inspirations by D. I love your Home tour! Everything is so pretty and festive. Aren’t we all learning continuously on photography? I have moments where things come out great , then others that just won’t work. I’m currently taking a free online class & it is so helpful. You may have heard of it by Craftsy. It’s available on one of my posts, so you may check it out there if you like. http://www.inspirationsbyd.com/search?updated-max=2013-11-15T14:31:00-05:00&max-results=3&start=6&by-date=false
