DIY Countertop Bathroom Organizer

I love to repurpose little organizers to corral items and keep my countertops clutter free. This DIY bathroom organizer project is a fun way to customize the look of plain storage.

At the start of a new year, after the holiday decorations are put away, my desire to organize all the things kicks into high gear. How about you?

Looking for more organizational ideas: See how I turned an IKEA Moppe into coffee k-cup storage.

Today I’m sharing a super easy way to customize a plain wood organizer (like this one) for your bathroom.

I am part of the DecoArt core blogger team for 2019-2020.  This post and paint is sponsored by DecoArt, but all opinions, ideas and creative inspo are from me.

The best thing about this diy project, is that you can customize it for any room however you like. I needed some extra storage in my bathroom so I decided to style this plain bamboo organizer accordingly. Here’s a photo of my bathroom.

Bathroom Makeover with Paint Sprayer

I thought this space could use a little pattern, so I decided to paint a hand-drawn windowpane pattern on my bamboo organizer. First, I added a coat of Chalky Finish paint in Lace, which is a lovely off-white color.

I like using chalky finish paint for projects like this because this style of paint adheres to the slickest of surfaces, dries fast and requires no priming.

Next I measured out the distance between my windowpane stripes.

I wanted my stripes to resemble watercolor, so I diluted some DecoArt color stain in black with a little water so it would look more transparent as I painted the lines.

Also, I didn’t use a straight edge because I wanted a more imperfect stripe look.

That’s it… once everything is dry, I reversed the drawers so that the finger loop was on the inside instead. Then I added these brass bow knobs for some glam power.

If you’re ready to organize all the things like I am, then you’ll love customizing this little organizer with DecoArt paints. I just love making projects that solve an organizational need in my home, rather than add more clutter.

Bathroom Organization

The best part about this project is that you can fashion this little set of drawers however you like with a little paint.

Then, when you’re ready to put it somewhere else, you can simply paint over it. After a season of getting more stuff, it feels good to get organized and make something that can be used over and over again.

I’d love to hear your creative ideas for using this little set of drawers! Comment with your organizational tips!

Happy new year!
