This project is by far my most favorite thing we did to our kitchen. We love using bead board (or wainscoting - whatever you like to call it) around the house. We have old plaster walls that aren't in the best condition. Bead board is an easy and affordable update for our walls without the mess and cost of fixing the plaster. UPDATE: And, it even landed us in our first magazine! See the details here. Catch up on Part 1 and Part 2 to see how we updated the corner (not shown in this … [Read more...] about DIY Farmhouse Beadboard Kitchen Backsplash

DIY Kitchen Island Makeover (part 2)
The kitchen island (well, it is really more of a peninsula) is a key space in our kitchen. Whomever remodeled our kitchen in the 80s likely put this island in. It's where my kiddos eat breakfast every day. Sometimes homework happens here too. It's the most open piece of countertop for baking, prepping, gathering, eating, etc. And it was ugly. So here's the story on how we made it prettier and managed to repurpose an old architectural corbel to boot. It isn't big. It fits just in … [Read more...] about DIY Kitchen Island Makeover (part 2)
Vintage Backyard Shed Makeover
Do you ever think about moving? Sometimes I dream of relocating to Wisconsin. We just returned from a family vacation on Crystal Lake near Plymouth, WI (a favorite spot of ours since I was young). We LOVE lake life in Wisconsin... we love the friendly people, the supper clubs, the brats and beer, and the CHEESE - oh that glorious cheese. I may have ate half my weight in dairy and drank the rest in craft beer... but alas, vacation is over. And, we aren't moving anytime soon. In fact, we … [Read more...] about Vintage Backyard Shed Makeover
Starry Night Stencil Patriotic Table Makeover
I'm a child of the 80s. And to be honest... until recently when I thought of stencils (or the art of stenciling) my mind would fill with images of primitive decor and painted amish kids sitting next to bent willow trees with a heart in between them. I have memories of my mom dragging a ladder around the dining room to stencil a floral border on the wall near the ceiling. Many of you may have done the same. (She has since painted over them. She will read this and would want me to mention it. … [Read more...] about Starry Night Stencil Patriotic Table Makeover
DIY Vintage Shelf Styling
My second furniture makeover is up today on Country Chic Paint's blog... please check it out! We made over a "found" shelf and turned it into a chic cocktail storage area. You'll find my paint colors and techniques over there, so don't miss it! Since we finally painted this shelf during our mini dining room renovation, I spent more time styling these shelves than I had previously. When I was finally done and stepped back to look at it... I thought this little shelf is a mini … [Read more...] about DIY Vintage Shelf Styling

Feed Sack Chair Makeover
Who says your have to use fabric to reupholster an old chair? Create an authentic farmhouse look with an old grain sack instead. I spotted this gem at a garage sale years ago. It's been tucked away in my basement collecting dust, waiting for some inspiration... until now. I was most attracted to the decorative arms and feet - knowing that distressed paint would adhere to the grooves and really give this piece some character. Repurposed feed and grains sacks are all over the place … [Read more...] about Feed Sack Chair Makeover
Vintage Trash Can Makeover
Here's another trash can makeover (see dog food container) only this time we will use it for trash. My husband went picking and found this great vintage metal trash can with foot lever... and it still worked! While I was already using this beautiful glossy red spray paint on the dog food container, I thought it would also make a great color for this trash can, which I intended to put in our downstairs bathroom (pictured here). I thought the red would compliment the dark blue and crisp white walls. … [Read more...] about Vintage Trash Can Makeover
DIY Dog Food Container
Oh how our lives have changed since we adopted our lab! Our brief doggie honeymoon [or the calm before the storm] is over and our puppy is acting more like a puppy. In other words, keeping us on our toes - at all times! Of course we still love him, but let's just say it's a good thing I can sew. The couch picture I shared in the DIY couch cover post is missing a few pillows at the moment, not to mention the socks, slippers, shoes, toys, tv remotes, and more that have been either eaten altogether … [Read more...] about DIY Dog Food Container
