We’ve always had an appreciation for old ceiling tin tiles. We continue to acquire unique (and cheap) pieces of tin as we find it. Our primary use for old tin ceiling tiles has been decorative, framed plaques for the wall. Nothing special, just simple wood molding frames and a picture hanger on the back.
I enjoy the rustic look of the chipped paint on the old tile, which is usually painted in a neutral cream or white. After my husband trims the edges and creates the molding, I paint it to match and add some texture by antiquing the frame with a dark brown paint or stain that has been rubbed on with a dry cloth.
We prefer to hang them on the wall, but I’ve seen more creative uses online that take advantage of the magnetic metal by creating message boards with them, which I think is pretty clever.
